For my degree project, I focused on the story of my parents' escape from communist Poland during the late 1970s. As my research developed, the project transitioned from the telling of this complex tale to combining the difficulties that individuals face when relocating with the general perception of Polish heritage, traditions and goods in American society. My attention shifted to learning and understanding traditional Polish folk arts — embroidery, paper cut-outs, and painted Easter eggs.
